The Santena Pumpkin Festival, now in its 9th edition, is ready to celebrate autumn and local excellence on Saturday, November 16, and Sunday, November 17, 2024. This event is more than just a festivity, it’s an opportunity to showcase the pumpkin, a flagship product of the area, and to promote a sustainable food supply chain. Organized in collaboration with Pro Loco Santena and the Chierese-Carmagnolese Food District, the festival enhances local agriculture, encouraging conscious consumption and environmental respect.
The Pumpkin: The Star of the Table
On Saturday and Sunday, Piazza Martiri della Libertà will transform into a street food area, where the pumpkin will take center stage in numerous culinary preparations, from traditional recipes to creative interpretations. Visitors will have the chance to taste local dishes and innovative creations that highlight the flavor and versatility of this vegetable. In particular, pumpkin-based specialties, prepared with high-quality local ingredients, will pay tribute to the agricultural richness of the region.
Promoting Local Products
The festival is committed to raising awareness about zero-kilometer production and seasonality. Through activities for families and children, organized by the Food District and the La Collina farm, visitors can explore the origins of local products, learn about farming practices, and discover how pumpkin cultivation and other regional specialties help keep local traditions alive.
Beyond tastings, the Pumpkin Festival will also feature a thematic conference titled “Is Everything Organic? From Bioplastics to Food Waste”, in collaboration with the Chierese Consortium for Services and Biorepack. This discussion will delve into issues related to sustainability and the future of agriculture, highlighting the role of local products and green innovation.
This festival is more than just a celebration, it’s a real opportunity to support agriculture and Santena’s signature product, the pumpkin, which embodies history, hard work, and passion for the land.
